Our dear Randa; we both love and hate you! But ok ok, the great love we have for you totally outweighs your complicated nature...
This year, Pinot Noir’s prima donna soul was actually quite kind to us. So much so that we hardly had to do anything other than take very loving care of the grapes and bring nature directly into your glass.
As our vines grow older and we gain more experience, we’re learning to control both our vineyards and our vinifications more precisely. This was something we noticed clearly with our 2023 Pinot Noir, where we normally face challenges balancing tannins, acidity, fruit, charm—basically, creating a truly great wine, a Pinot Noir in the Binivista style!
Already during the early barrel tastings, it became clear that we had a rather unusual and surprisingly easy job ahead of us. And so, for the very first time in Randa’s history, all 2023 barrels were blended together! Finally, the blend was lifted with a tiny splash—250 liters each—from barrel #21 and barrel #72, which remained from 2022 as “reserve” wines.
How does Randa 2023 taste?
What a nose! It literally makes my mouth water! I really have to focus here to actually write something down before I take a big sip :-D
The nose is so juicy and packed with the sweetest, prettiest ripe red berries and peach pit. A touch of mint leaves, sweet licorice, and nutmeg adds further complexity.
It’s super generous on the palate with the same gorgeous fruit and spicy notes from the nose, forming a wonderful backbone alongside the finest velvety tannins and ripe, juicy acidity. We really hit the jackpot this year with our pure Pinot Noir. Silky smooth, charming, and full of intellect!
The best way to enjoy Randa 2023
This is a jazzy wine that makes me want to listen to romantic soft jazz or bossa nova! Serve it in large Burgundy glasses and then head to the kitchen while the music sets the scene (and the mood) to prepare a beautiful dish with seared duck breast, braised beetroot, steamed spinach with nutmeg, and a splash of duck jus.
