Practice makes perfect

As always, Randa is a blend of 100% Pinot Noir. And when we say blend, it's because it's a blend of selected barrels. This year we selected eight barrels that just fit beautifully together: barrels number 29, 40, 47, 48, 50, 51, 74 and number 100.

This time we decided to give our red wines, including Randa, a little more patience in the cellar. First, a few more months in barrel; this wine went into barrel in December, just before Christmas 2024, and was only taken out and final-blended in February-March 2026. After that, it was given another two to three months in bottle before being shipped to you.

We always strive to make a Burgundian style of Pinot Noir. We cannot make Burgundy in Mallorca, so we're not trying to exactly that! But when we say we aim for a Burgundian style, we are aiming for pure fruit. We are aiming for freshness, for finesse, for elegance. And this year, the wine really got that. Pinot Noir has a fickle personality; a very tricky grape. But each year we're getting better and better at reaching what we want, and this year is a very clear example of practice making perfect.

How does Randa 2024 taste?

The nose is so pure, elegant and enticing. All of these sweet red berries; juicy cherries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries. But also this beautiful licorice note, and something deeper and darker like nutmeg and truffle.

The barrel is so well integrated. There's a slight touch of vanilla here, but in a very discrete way; like really great quality bourbon vanilla. And a sense of candied orange peel, as always when we reach this level of Pinot.

On the palate it's equally pure, with the same beautiful fruit expression, that touch of barrel, and enormous freshness. The acidity is juicy, ripe and round, and the wine will definitely benefit from a bit of further aging in the bottle to soften it up. The tannins are so silky.

This is a highly complex, beautiful and elegant Pinot Noir that will last for years to come, and will embrace great music and great company; but also some great food.

How to best enjoy Randa 2024...

This wine definitely makes me think of lamb; a really pink, rosy-cooked lamb fillet with root vegetables like Jerusalem artichokes and maybe some beetroot. Very light and delicate dish to let the wine shine.

Or, for the quick version, it would also be amazing with a duck rillette; or any good pâté, basically.
