Alfabia; our now 2 year old "baby"...

This is the second vintage of Alfabia. A wine that was "born" in 2021 as the result of some of our Merlot barrels very simply demanding to play main character in a wine. The first vintage we decided to add in some 25% of Syrah to add a little extra backbone to the sexy Merlot fruit, but of course this year, we decided to take things up a notch and let our baby grow up! 

We, again this year, selected the best barrels of Merlot during one of the first barrel tastings in late summer. During that very same tasting session we all agreed that this year it wasn't the Syrah that would bring the magic, but rather some of our barrels of Cabernet. After many trials we finally ended with a 60/40% blend that we all loved. It's indeed still the same style of wine as last year, but just so much better and quite a bit more sophisticated. 

The Cabernet brings a different level of spice and pedigree to the blend and really lifts up the lush Merlot fruit. 

How to best enjoy 2022 Alfabia

What a delightfully spicy nose with lots of Cabernet Sauvignon soul! This wine marries some exciting peppery notes with lush dark fruit like plums and crushed blackberries and also some more red notes like pomegranate. After a while in the glass it opens up with some exotic notes of sweet baking spices. 

On the palate its broad and vibrant with a superb play between freshness and sweetness from the ripe fruit. It's long, dense and dark and totally Rock n' Roll! 

What to serve with Alfabia

This wine almost demands you to take a duck breast and rub the skin with Ras Al Hanout, grill it and serve with oven roasted sweet potato and brussel sprouts with walnuts!

When you're in a cosy winter mood and feel like something to warm your soul this is your go-to wine.
