A picture perfect Massanella
And we are back again with a picture perfect Massanella! Elegant and beautiful. And again with 95% Garnacha; this is almost fully Garnacha this year, with only 5% Mantonegro.
We found some incredibly beautiful, fruit-expressive grapes in one of our plots of Garnacha and picked them three or four days before we started picking Garnacha for the reds. Again, picking early in the morning, chilling the grapes down very cold during the night, gentle hand-sorting, destemming and fermenting in the morning. A very slow press, so the wine takes on the delicate rosé colour it has right there in the press, over the course of two to three hours; and that's it.
The Garnacha and the Mantonegro were, of course, as always, fermented separately, and the blend was done in January, the year following harvest. We needed very little of the Mantonegro in this blend, but it made a really, really big difference. The Garnacha on its own needed a bit of magic, and the Mantonegro added a beautiful strawberry fruit and an extra touch of charm.
How does Massanella 2025 taste?
It smells of summer! Delicate fresh strawberries, mandarin, red peach and spring flowers. It's just so pretty on the nose. Very fresh, very pure, very delicate and very inviting.
On the palate it shows the perfect harmony between freshness, fruitiness and elegance. It's so vibrant and so fresh, almost vibrating and dancing on your palate. It opens up with a bit more body than you would have expected, and finishes with this almost saliva provoking acidity.
This is a highly elegant and aristocratic rosé. Exactly what we wanted with Massanella; something that's intelligent and charming, light and vibrant, and dancing all at the same time.
How to best enjoy Massanella 2025...
As always, this rosé calls for summer, happiness and great music outside. But it also works beautifully with a great array of dishes.
It makes me think of a salad with fresh baby leaves, pink grapefruit and some very juicy prawns. Just a simple vinaigrette of lemon juice and the best olive oil you can find, some chopped macadamia nuts on top; and that would be heaven.
