Just like last year, we are once again inviting you to an event in Copenhagen, where among other things we will be presenting one of the winemakers we work with in our Winemakers programme.
The Tofterup Brothers
In 2025 we began a collaboration with the Danish brothers David and Jonas Tofterup, who normally make wine on the Spanish mainland. During our 2025 harvest, they chose to make a Syrah wine together with us. The wine is not yet ready – it is still ageing in oak barrels in the cellar and is not expected to be ready before 2027.
The brothers were born in Denmark but moved with their parents to Spain in the 1990s, and it was on the family's trips around the country's wine regions that their love of wine was born. David, the elder of the two, was already hooked on wine at the age of 15 and has since worked as a winemaker in Spain, France, Chile and the USA. He has twice received the title of Spain's “Winemaker of the Year”.

Jonas, who is ten years younger, chose the academic path. He holds a master's degree in viticulture and oenology and has made wine in Spain, South Africa, Germany and Denmark, among other places. In 2019 he earned the title of Master of Wine (MW) – one of the most prestigious and demanding titles in the wine world. Training at The Institute of Masters of Wine in London typically takes several years and includes challenging examinations in both theory and blind tasting, as well as a final research paper. Jonas' research paper examined how transport by air versus truck affects an aged, full-bodied red wine. When he received the title, there were only 384 Masters of Wine in the entire world.

Besides winemaking, Jonas has been export manager for the Chilean wine house Viña Valdivieso, he is co-founder of the Iberian Wine Academy, where he teaches WSET courses, and he is a judge at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
Together, the brothers have left large wine companies behind to devote themselves to smaller, family-run wines focused on Spain's overlooked regions and hidden gems. We are proud to have them as part of our Winemakers programme and look forward to you tasting the result of our collaboration.
