It's hot down here!
The summer heat has really arrived to Europe, especially down here in the south – and we have had high temperatures throughout June and it has continued into July. Fortunately, we have not yet had as high temperatures as on the mainland, and here on the island it’s been between 30 and 35 degrees and fortunately it looks like the temperatures will drop a little in the coming weeks.
Our plants and their grapes are used to living with only a limited amount of water and with high temperatures, but high temperatures can cause drying out of the grapes, reduced acidity and changes in the aroma of the grapes. If the temperatures get even higher, it can mean that the plants "shut down" and thus stop ripening, which is very problematic.
Fortunately, everything still looks very good, both in terms of yield and quality. And so far, we have also been spared for diseases.
So now we cross our fingers and hope that the temperatures drop a little towards the harvest, which will come sooner than we know.
Our Pinot Noir grapes have already started to change color from green to blue, and this means that we expect to start the harvest in the first week of August.

Focused work in the fields
The focus in recent months has been on the vineyards and because of the heat we start working already at 3.00 in the morning! We must constantly work with the plants - check for diseases, trim them, choose the number of leaves and no less the number of grape bunches. This is very time consuming, so all men participate - and fortunately with high spirits and work satisfaction.

Winemakers Wine – Peter Work
However, we have also had time to bottle our very special first Winemaker's Wine, which Peter Work harvested in 2023 in our vineyards. Peter was last down here in April this year and from the approx. 4,000 liters of wine divided into 12 different barrels, we made 2 different wines together, which now rest a little in bottle and if everything goes according to plan, they can be presented at the end of the year, so rejoice. These are 2 really beautiful and unique wines!
